The Essential Question
How can we use fabric scraps to create fashion statements?

Objective
Students will draw a figure and add clothing using fabric scraps and other embellishments.

Materials
cardboard cereal boxes, acrylic paint, fabric scraps, found objects and other embellishments (ribbons, buttons, etc.)

Procedures

  1. Introduce a slideshow presentation of fun and unusual over-the-top fashion.
  2. Students choose a figurative body shape and/or gender outline and draw it on the interior cardboard side of a cereal box.
  3. Next, students paint the background one color; they can choose to paint the figure after embellishment.
  4. Once the paint dries, students add fabric, ribbons, buttons, and/or other found objects to create a fashion statement.

Assessment
Students engage in a group critique fashion show.
