The Essential Question

How does art and design communicate stories and ideas?

Objective

Students will produce a collage that effectively communicates and expresses ideas using varied media, techniques, and processes.

Materials

magazines, newspapers, scissors, glue stick, 90# white sulphite paper, craft knives, cutting mats, zip-top bags

Procedures

  1. Students select a topic of exploration such as fashion, careers, cars, culture, surreal, or summer.
  2. Students gather found imagery from magazines, drawings, and newspapers relating to their topic.
  3. Students cut out their found images and store them in a zip-top bag for safekeeping.
  4. Students plan their composition and arrange their cut-out images prior to gluing them down on 90# white sulphite paper.

Assessment

Students write a description of their collage via our school’s online platform. They also participate in a collage swap.
