Hello art educators! Thank you for picking up this special printed edition of SchoolArts.
I hope the summer treated you well. For me, what I imagined as a no-alarm, no-agenda type of summer slowly grew into quite a busy one, with traveling, meetings, writing, workshops, and coffee dates with friends and colleagues. Now, we are back in the classroom, inspiring the next generation of artists.

The new school year brings excitement, positive energy, continuation of building relationships with our students and colleagues, and new changes. You might have already seen state art education conferences being promoted via social media and e-blasts and perhaps downloaded your state’s conference program to see what is going to be offered and who is presenting. These conferences are essential to our profession, art education community, and well-being. We become sponges absorbing authentic art experiences, gaining new knowledge, building valuable connections, and collecting resources.

A New Era of SchoolArts
You will notice that one of those resources, SchoolArts magazine, has a new look. SchoolArts has decided to go fully digital! Considering the rich 124-year history of printing SchoolArts, the decision wasnʼt easy. We understand that the world is evolving, and the use of technology is increasingly growing. To best serve art educators, we need to evolve as well, disseminating high-quality art educational content by embracing a format that is more flexible, accessible, and environmentally friendly.

Here are just some of the benefits of the new
digital platform:

  • Search content using keywords/filters such as grade level, theme, and media.
  • Save articles for easy reference.
  • Easily read articles on any device with the responsive, accessible design.
  • View even more student artwork than the print version.

I personally invite you to explore the platform and begin collecting articles that can be used in your curriculum. Curate your own digital library of articles, ClipCards, and resources. Take a look at School.com.

In This Issue
This printed issue collects articles from our September and October digital issues. Read about Chrissy Block’s “How Personal Art-Making Transforms Teaching,” Bette Naughton’s “Art, Accessibility, and Visual Impairments,” Teri Suzanne’s “Innovative Insects,” Leigh Drake’s “The (mini) Artist’s Studio,” David Anderson’s “Fingerprint Portraits,” and Ellen Mahoney’s “Cloisonné Graffiti Remix.”

The way we navigate digital platforms and access content is an indication of how our world is constantly changing. Not only does this impact us personally, but it also impacts us professionally. SchoolArts continues to meet the needs of its readers by adapting to a newer way of publishing. Join us on this new adventure! I would love to hear your thoughts.
