Pop Art Perspective

The Essential Question

How can students combine learning perspective with art history?

Objective

Students will design a room in one-point perspective that includes a selfie and elements influenced by pop art.

Materials

sketchbooks, pencils, colored pencils, photocopy of a selfie, glue, reference materials

Procedures

  1. Students draw a room in one-point perspective in their sketchbook that includes two side walls, a back wall, a ceiling, and a floor.
  2. Next, students select the quote of a pop artist who inspires them, and then design the room in the style of that artist.
  3. Students print and cut out a selfie that will fit within their room. They glue the selfie in the room and create a speech bubble with the pop artist quote they chose.
  4. Students add color to their drawings with colored pencils. Note: this lesson can be applied to a variety of themes.

Assessment

Did the student draw the room in accurate one-point perspective? Did the student include a relevant quote from the artist and did they quote it accurately? Was the selfie glued and color added in a skillful way? Are there elements of the design that reflect the artist who was quoted?
