How can we express an ethical position in a sculpture?

Students will research and choose a side for an ethical position, then create a hand sculpture with found objects that communicate their ethical position.

plaster gauze, water, scissors, acrylic paint, hot glue, found objects and embellishments, paper towels and other cleaning materials

1. Students research a few different ethical positions portrayed by contemporary artists.
2. Students choose their own ethical position and create sketches, including a hand position and found objects that will help to communicate their chosen position.
3. Students create a hand casting for their sculpture by plastering their own hand.
4. Students add paint to their casted hand and found objects that communicate their ethical position.
5. Students assemble their final sculpture for presentation.

Students will photograph their sculpture and include a video artist statement. The class will create a bitmoji gallery with their sculptures and a link to their artist statement videos.
