The Essential Question
How can students express the concept of space while drawing an unexpected subject?
Objective
Students will draw PEZ candy dispensers, depicting overlap, size, placement, and linear perspective.
Materials
sketchbooks, drawing paper, pencils or other drawing instruments, PEZ character candy dispensers
Procedures
1. Discuss still life and concepts of space with students. Include overlap, size, placement, and linear perspective in the discussion.
2. Distribute PEZ candy dispensers and drawing materials. Students choose a PEZ character that interests them and practice drawing it from various angles in their sketchbooks.
3. Students sketch and plan a final composition featuring one or more of the containers.
4. Students draw their final PEZ still life, including concepts of space recently discussed.
Assessment
Do the drawings accurately exhibit concepts of space?
