TEACHING SUGGESTION

Engaging Early Finishers

Image

It isn’t a problem when students finish projects at varying times as long as you have strategies to deal with the situation. Here are a few ideas:

Work in a Series—Ask early finishers to create a second or third solution to an art-making challenge.

Alternative Projects—Give early finishers an alternative project to work on while the others finish the unit project. Journals and altered books are great examples that can be worked on continually throughout the year.

Exploration—Encourage early finishers to explore a new medium or technique. Students can report what they learned to the teacher or present their findings to the class.
